| Golden Bears Score Late, Top Beavers, 5-3 | The Golden Bears had to overcome a fine effort from Oregon State pitcher Scott White to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Prisoners Ballpark. White went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The win was credited to Kevin Hope in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Frank Zimmerman took the loss. Picking up the save was Jack MacDonald, his 6th.
California took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, shortstop Jim Rack hit a grand slam home run that set the crowd abuzz.
Rack told a California Citizen reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
The Golden Bears bumped their record to 21-18 with this latest triumph.
