Cougars Fall Short at Texas

The Houston Cougars got a superb performance from right fielder Sam Koran. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Texas. The Longhorns won the game, 10-9. In spite of the loss, Koran was named the player of the game. He slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 5. Texas reliever Eric Smith was the winner. His record is now 3-2. Jim Williams took the loss. Texas now has a 3-game win streak.

Texas won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out and Jim Williams on the mound for Houston, third baseman Juan Escobar hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Longhorns fans to their feet.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Escobar.
