The South Illinois Salukis got a stellar effort from pitcher Pete Hopper, helping South Illinois score a 2-0 win over the visiting Iowa State Cyclones. Craig Lane finished the game for South Illinois and earned his 3rd save. The Salukis bumped their record to 23-12 with this latest triumph.

The Salukis got a big at-bat from shortstop Alex McNichols. For the game, McNichols was 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave South Illinois a 2-0 lead.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," McNichols said after the game.
