| Salukis Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras | South Illinois beat Indiana State at Field of the Shield, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to center fielder Paul Willard, who earned player of the game honors. The Salukis have an impressive 21-11 record.
Willard had a game-changing single in the bottom of the 11th. On a 2-2 fastball from Cory Jaquez, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Salukis a 6-5 lead. It was the 35th hit of the year for Willard.
"I like our moxie," said Salukis manager Justin Page.
