| Cougars Need Extra Frames to Get Past Owls | The Rice Owls got a superb performance from pitcher Jamie Burnett. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Washington State. The Cougars won the game, 8-4. In spite of the loss, Burnett was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball. The losing streak for Rice has now reached 5 games.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from catcher John Thomas. For the game, Thomas went 1 for 4 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the 12th, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 15th hit of the season gave Washington State a 5-3 lead.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Thomas told reporters after the game.
