| Gamecocks Bang Out 7-6 Win Versus Virginia | The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Virginia Cavaliers, 7-6. Earning player of the game honors was left fielder Jim Jorgenson, who was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The save was Jon Roberts's, his 3rd. Even with the win, the Gamecocks have a dismal 10-21 record.
Jorgenson had a game-changing single in the bottom of the sixth. On a full count slider from Tim Pickett, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Gamecocks a 6-5 lead. It was the 11th hit of the year for Jorgenson.
