USC second baseman Howard Yankovich had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Rice Owls, 6-4. USC reliever Elijah Thompson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Hideiichi Nakashima was saddled with the loss. At 14-16, the Trojans are currently 18th in the Cliff Gustafson.

Yankovich had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-2 sinker from Hideiichi Nakashima, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Trojans a 6-4 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Yankovich.

Yankovich told the USC Today: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
