| Pointer Stars in Buckeyes Win | The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks, 8-1, at Ballpark of Bloomfield College today. Leading the charge for Ohio State was third baseman Fred Pointer. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Ohio State reliever Paul Beck got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Pat Kane was tagged with the loss. The Buckeyes bumped their record to 15-13 with this latest triumph.
Pointer had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, when he hit a grand slam. The Buckeyes went on to win.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Pointer said. "We did a good job of that today."
