| Matusz Helps Cougars Run Win Streak to 5 | The Washington State Cougars beat the Arizona State Sun Devils, 12-5, at Tribe Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Jim Matusz, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Washington State reliever Mickey Kuiper picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Jesse Metheny absorbed the loss. The 18th-place Cougars have won 5 straight games.
Sean Spicer put Washington State in front, 3-2, when he took Jesse Metheny downtown. His 2-run home run came with one out in the bottom of the first. It was his 9th home run of the season.
