Bruins Fall Short, 6-5, at Fresno State

The UCLA Bruins got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Tomasello. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Fresno State. The Bulldogs won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Tomasello was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Fresno State reliever Eduardo Flores picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-0. Alex Perez was collared with the loss. The save was credited to Chris Hancock, his 7th.

Fresno State took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no one out, first baseman Mark Cummings hit a grand slam home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Cummings said after the game.

The Bulldogs, at 18-8, lead by one game in their division.
