| Big Day by Gonzalez Sparks Golden Eagles Win | The South Mississippi Golden Eagles grabbed a 8-4 win over the Texas Longhorns at Ballpark of Storm Lake College. South Mississippi first baseman Manuel Gonzalez was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 to earn player of the game honors. Mike Heiser earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. The Golden Eagles bumped their record to 13-12 with this latest triumph.
Danny Magner had a big run-scoring double for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the third inning. With South Mississippi trailing 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Jason Lester and stroked the double to right-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Golden Eagles ahead, 3-2.
"It was a solid team effort," said Magner after the game.
