| Ruby Excels, But Longhorns Win | California third baseman Erik Ruby pounded Texas Longhorns pitchers at Ballpark of Celebration College, but it was not enough to keep the Golden Bears from falling, 10-9. Ruby belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Texas reliever Luis Vazquez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Josh Burcin shouldered the loss. Texas, now 9-13, holds 19th place in the Cliff Gustafson.
The Longhorns got a big at-bat from center fielder Bill Cotter. For the game, Cotter went 1-3 with a double and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Texas a 2-1 lead.
"We maximized our offense today," said Texas skipper Brandon Desforges. "That makes everyone's life easier."
