| Tigers Edge Cavaliers, 4-3 | The inspired effort of Virginia first baseman Tyler Ammons was not enough to prevent a 4-3 loss to the Clemson Tigers. Ammons was 2-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Clemson reliever Dan Miller was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Ted van Driel took the loss. Ben Satterfield earned the save, his 2nd, for the Tigers.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from third baseman Dave Buckelew. For the game, Buckelew was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 17th hit of the season gave Clemson a 4-3 lead.
After the game, Clemson manager Miguel Angel Ortíz applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
Clemson is now 10-11, while Virginia is 8-13.
