Owls Stymie Mississippi State, Take 3-1 Win

The Rice Owls took Mississippi State pitcher Mike Mallozzi's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Toughkenamon College Fields. The final score had Rice getting past the Bulldogs, 3-1. Mallozzi went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs, striking out 5. The Owls bumped their record to 13-8 with this latest triumph.

Jon Thompson, who is the 3rd-best prospect in the Owls organization, aided the Rice cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the pinch hitter went 1-1.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said Rice manager Jimmy Naylor.
