| Pioneers Mow Down Mustangs, 9-3 | Spirited fans at McNichols Stadium greeted the Mile High Mustangs for their clash with the Vancouver Pioneers.
The Vancouver Pioneers topped the Mile High Mustangs by the score of 9-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to left fielder Joe Bates. Bates was 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Pioneers on the day. The winner was Richard Amezquita, who threw 92 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits.
Bates contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Vancouver in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Bates took a fastball from Jose Montalvo and stroked the home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Pioneers to leap in front, 4-3.
