Longhorns Lose, 4-2, at Toughkenamon College Fields

Rice turned a good effort from starter Jamie Burnett into a win over the Texas Longhorns at Toughkenamon College Fields. The final score was 4-2. Burnett, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. Daniel Cashier picked up the save for Rice, his 3rd of the year.

The Owls got a big at-bat from designated hitter Sam Powell. For the game, Powell was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 3rd double of the season gave Rice a 3-0 lead.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Powell told the Rice Observer.

The Owls bumped their record to 6-6 with this latest triumph.
