| 49'ers Rally For Late Win Over Cougars | Behind a solid performance from catcher Brian Hanington, the Long Beach State 49'ers defeated the Washington State Cougars, 7-6. Hanington was 2 for 4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the 49'ers. The 49'ers bumped their record to 7-3 with this latest triumph.
Hanington had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 0-2 splitter from Bill Cosenza, he banged a 2-run single to center, giving the 49'ers a 7-6 lead. It was the 6th hit of the year for Hanington.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Hanington told reporters after the game.
