| Cyclones Lose, 5-2, at Scandals Ballpark | South Carolina beat Iowa State on the strength of starter Jim Alt's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 5-2 win. Alt picked up the win for South Carolina, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The Gamecocks, with just their 2nd win in 7 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
The Gamecocks got a big at-bat from designated hitter Evan Zabinski. For the game, Zabinski went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave South Carolina a 5-2 lead.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said South Carolina manager Orlando Torres.
