| Great Day for Stafford in Commodores Win | The Vanderbilt Commodores stopped the North Carolina Tar Heels, 5-3, at Ballpark of Barrow College. The Commodores got a big game from Kevin Stafford, who went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Jesus Garza went 6.1 innings for Vanderbilt to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 earned run. He scattered 4 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. His record improves to 1-0. With the win, Vanderbilt pushes its record to 4-3.
Stafford had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-1 fastball from John Neal, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Commodores a 4-1 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Stafford.
