Salukis Lose, 5-2, at Zodiac Ballpark

The umbrellas came out during the Auburn-South Illinois contest at Zodiac Ballpark.

The Auburn Tigers took South Illinois pitcher Chris Nairne's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Zodiac Ballpark. The final score had Auburn getting past the Salukis, 5-2. Nairne went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 8. Bobby Crowell got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Pete DeCaprio recorded the save for Auburn, his 3rd of the season.

Auburn took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no one out, first baseman Rich Carruth hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Carruth told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."

With the win, Auburn pushes its record to 4-3.
