| Ducks Score Late to Upend Owls, 10-6 | Rice got a terrific performance from third baseman Bob Slade, but it wasn't enough to beat the Oregon Ducks. Oregon won the Toughkenamon College Fields contest, 10-6. Slade was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Oregon, now 2-1, has gotten their season off to a good start.
The Ducks got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Matt Taylor. For the game, Taylor was 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Oregon a 10-6 lead.
"Enjoyed this one," Taylor told the Oregon Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
