| Horned Frogs Turn Back Mississippi State, 11-9 | The TCU Horned Frogs put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the season opener at Dingoes Ballpark. Right Fielder Ricky Griner won player of the game plaudits for TCU. He was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Rob McCown picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Jon Berni was tagged with the loss.
Had Dan Slade not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Slade hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 10-9, in favor of the Horned Frogs.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Griner said after the game.
