| Holeman Slugs Sycamores to 7-5 Win | The North Carolina Tar Heels inaugurated the 2038 campaign with a disappointing 7-5 loss to the Indiana State Sycamores at Bruisers Ballpark. Indiana State first baseman Steve Holeman had a big impact on the outcome. He went 3-5 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Indiana State reliever Tom Dorsey was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Bob Schuh.
The Sycamores got a big at-bat from designated hitter Jerry Douglas. For the game, Douglas hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. In the top of the eighth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Indiana State a 7-5 lead.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Holeman said after the game.
