Mustangs Fall Short, 3-2, at Winfield

The Winfield Warriors did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the San Angelo Mustangs at The Barn. Nobody did more than pitcher Sam Shippy, who captured player of the game honors. Shippy went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-8. Jose Eliserio converted his 13th save in 18 tries.

The Warriors got a big at-bat from second baseman Jim Goudeau. For the game, Goudeau went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Winfield a 3-1 lead.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Winfield manager Johnny Vallance. "Our pregame was pretty good."

The 5th-place Warriors improved to 62-98.
