Mendez Now 7-5 After Subduing Vikings

St. Petersburg pitcher Pedro Mendez did his part in helping his team beat the Dublin Vikings, 3-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Jeff Hymel earned his 8th save in 10 chances. The Pelicans bumped their record to 82-76 with this latest triumph.

Mendez allowed no runs over 7.1 innings. He also racked up 9 strikeouts.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Dublin skipper Mike Bergeron, "and it cost us."
