The Nichols Gnats defeated the Winfield Warriors, 9-2, in TMLA action at The Pond, with Nichols pitcher Franklin Salinas named player of the game. Salinas, now 13-11, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs.
Had Jesse Wyatt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Wyatt hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Gnats.
"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Johnny Vallance.
Nichols, at 75-82, occupies 4th place in the TMLA Earl Weaver Division.
