| Multi-HR Day for Vargas as Islanders Overpower Stogies, 5-1 | The Hawaii Islanders beat the Havana Stogies, 5-1, at The Humidor. The Islanders got a fine performance from first baseman Jordan Vargas, who captured player of the game honors. He belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. David Lidstone was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with no walks and 6 strikeouts. Brian LaJeunesse converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
Vargas had a key at-bat for Hawaii early in the game. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 17th home run of the season and gave Hawaii an early 2-0 lead.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Vargas.
The Islanders now have a record of 26-37 with the win over Havana.
