Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Douglas Tipping, who went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. Cambridge reliever John Saucedo got the win, raising his record to 3-4. Alex Perez was tagged with the loss. Even with the win, the Orphans have a dismal 47-93 record.
Jake Everett aided the Cambridge cause with a 2-run double in the top of the second. For the game, the third baseman was 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Coney Island manager Jesús Cruz. "But we decided not to take it."
