The Nichols Gnats picked up a win at The Pond, knocking off the Eugene Emeralds, 12-0. Starting pitcher Ricardo Ortiz was an essential part of his team's success. The 4th-place Gnats have won 4 consecutive games.

Ortiz, who leaned on his slider, allowed no runs on just 3 hits over 8.2 innings for the Gnats. For the most part, Eugene hitters were simply overmatched.

"Ricardo's tempo and rhythm were good," said Gnats manager Norm Cobb. "He was the key to us winning."
