| Hornets Come Up Short at St. Petersburg | It was a good time at Billy Mathews Field, where fans came to watch the Bethesda Hornets and St. Petersburg Pelicans get after it.
St. Petersburg pitcher Pedro Mendez did his part in helping his team beat the Bethesda Hornets, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Jeff Hymel was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 3 save opportunities.
Jeff Cross, who is tied for 4th in the RA with a .387 on-base percentage, aided the St. Petersburg cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the first baseman was 1-3 with a double and a walk.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Bethesda manager Bob Reece. "The effort was great."
The Pelicans bumped their record to 71-66 with this latest triumph.
