| Mentzer has 3 hit night, Beavers Move to 42-21 | Portland first baseman Robert Mentzer was instrumental in his team's 10-8 win over the Dallas Texans. Mentzer, who is tied for 7th in the RCL in hits with 73, went 3-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Beavers. Portland reliever Chris Ackley picked up the win to move to 1-0. Héctor Zúñiga suffered the loss. Quan Que converted his 14th save in 17 tries.
Had Lance Russell not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Russell hit a 2-run double. That made the score 10-8, in favor of the Beavers.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Beavers manager Darwin Strickland. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The first-place Beavers have a one-game lead in their division.
