| Lake Monsters Fall Short at Coney Island | The Coney Island Cyclones beat the Okanagan Lake Monsters, 5-4, at Coney Island Coliseum. Coney Island first baseman Sam Groendyk earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Coney Island reliever David Alvarez picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Jesús Velásquez absorbed the loss. Coney Island now has a 3-game win streak.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from designated hitter Ricky Castaneda. For the game, Castaneda went 1-4 with a walk. In the bottom of the tenth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 12th hit of the season gave Coney Island a 5-4 lead.
"This place was rocking at the end," Groendyk said.
