| Emeralds Lose, 4-3, at Billy Mathews Field | The St. Petersburg Pelicans topped the Eugene Emeralds, 4-3, in RCLA action at Billy Mathews Field. The player of the game was St. Petersburg pitcher Manny Lima. Lima, now 8-6, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 3 earned runs. A.J. Schneider was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 21 save opportunities.
The Pelicans got a big at-bat from catcher Andy Jameson. For the game, Jameson went 2 for 3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 33rd hit of the season gave St. Petersburg a 4-3 lead.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Eugene skipper Ricardo Martínez, "and it cost us."
The Pelicans bumped their record to 59-51 with this latest triumph.
