The Georgia Grays knocked off the Quebec Armada, 7-6, at Lucky 7 Ballpark. Mario Tovar, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Georgia won. The shortstop was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Georgia reliever Kent Whitten picked up the win to move to 1-0. Christian Wallace suffered the loss. The save was Joe Kearns's, his 2nd.
The Grays got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Jordan Smith. For the game, Smith went 1 for 1, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 1st hit of the season gave Georgia a 7-6 lead.
Tovar told the Georgia Times: "I was born for the big stage."
