The Coney Island Cyclones picked up a win at The Pond, knocking off the Nichols Gnats, 2-0. Starting pitcher Walton Varner, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. David Alvarez converted his 6th save in 8 tries. Coney Island is in 5th place in the TMLA Dick Williams Division with a record of 42-62.

The Cyclones got a big at-bat from first baseman Sam Groendyk. For the game, Groendyk went 1-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 6th double of the season gave Coney Island a 2-0 lead.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Groendyk told the Coney Island Times.
