| Barreto Helps St. Petersburg Cruise to 11-2 Win | The St. Petersburg Pelicans beat the Tree City Black Squirrels, 11-2, at The Nut House. The Pelicans got a fine performance from first baseman Octavio Barreto, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4-4 with a triple, 3 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Tony Cisneros, credited with the win, is now 6-2. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 6.2 innings. The third-place Pelicans have won 6 straight.
St. Petersburg used the timely hitting of Paul Brew Jr. to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put the Pelicans on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Barreto told the St. Petersburg Gazette.
