In a tight contest at The Nut House, the St. Petersburg Pelicans edged the Tree City Black Squirrels by the score of 8-7. St. Petersburg center fielder Dave Hernandez, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for St. Petersburg.

Had Paul Brew Jr. not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Brew Jr. hit a grand slam. That made the score 8-4, in favor of the Pelicans.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Hernandez told the St. Petersburg Gazette. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
