| Panthers Score Late, Upend Black Squirrels, 8-7 | Tree City shortstop Bernard Cooper had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Cooper was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI, even as Charleston beat the Black Squirrels, 8-7. Cooper was named the player of the game despite the loss. Charleston reliever Kouichi Hayashi picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jaime Tait shouldered the loss. Bob Reel earned his 2nd save in 2 chances.
The Panthers got a big at-bat from second baseman Yuichiro Sato. For the game, Sato was 1-2 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Charleston a 8-7 lead.
"We take it day by day here," said Sato, "and today was a good one for us."
The Panthers bumped their record to 51-48 with this latest triumph.
