| Late Rally by Pelicans Secures Win | St. Petersburg beat West Virginia at Penlee Park, eking out a 2-1 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Manny Lima, who earned player of the game honors. The winner was Kyle Gamber in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Mike Crawford took the loss. The Pelicans bumped their record to 45-45 with this latest triumph.
Danny Romero had a nice at-bat for the Pelicans with one out in the top of the ninth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the third baseman got hit by a pitch, which would prove important in the St. Petersburg win.
"Runs were at a premium," said St. Petersburg manager Dennis Inman.
