| Gnats Clip Vikings in Tight Contest | Dublin got a terrific game from right fielder Nick Brown. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Nichols, 9-8. Brown was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Jeff Bushman was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities. The Gnats bumped their record to 42-37 with this latest triumph.
Fernando Rodriguez drew 1 walk for Nichols. The 21-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 8-8 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Matt Belcher. It was his 19th RBI of the season.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Rodriguez told the Nichols Bulletin. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
