| Panthers Get Close Win Over Cyclones | The Panthers faced a stiff challenge from Coney Island pitcher Steve Barr, but persevered to claim a win at Coney Island Coliseum. The final score was 3-1. Barr went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Charleston reliever Takuzo Okuyama picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Jason Ruby was saddled with the loss. Charleston is now 27-35, Coney Island 30-32.
The Panthers got a big at-bat from catcher Cody Bayles. For the game, Bayles was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Charleston a 3-1 lead.
"It was a solid team effort," said Bayles after the game.
