Cyclones Shut Out Panthers

The Coney Island Cyclones picked up a win at Coney Island Coliseum, knocking off the Charleston Panthers, 8-0. Starting pitcher Walton Varner, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Varner got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. Varner allowed no earned runs. The Cyclones bumped their record to 30-30 with this latest triumph.

Miguel Alvarez aided the Coney Island cause with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the center fielder was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
