| Figueroa Slugs Gnats to 8-4 Win | The Nichols Gnats powered past the Houston Sting, 8-4, at The Pond. Javier Figueroa hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4, to lead the charge. Nichols reliever Jorge Torres picked up the win to move to 3-0. Jason Gurwitz suffered the loss. The Gnats bumped their record to 23-21 with this latest triumph.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Bryan McGregor was at the plate when Nichols scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Gnats to go in front, 5-4.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Figueroa told the Nichols Bulletin. "It's as simple as that."
