| River Chiefs Topple Saints with Late Rally | The Chippewa River Chiefs faced a tough opponent in St. Paul pitcher Mario Montoya, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Saints Ballpark by a final score of 5-2. Montoya went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Chippewa reliever Eric O'Sullivan got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jack Nodell was tagged with the loss. The Saints, at 6-25, have stumbled out of the gate.
Chippewa used the bat of Juan Alvardo to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the River Chiefs ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.
"I really like what we did out there today," Alvardo said after the game.
