| Kaneko Hits for the Cycle | Akira Kaneko did everything he could for the Kingwood Knights today -- literally.
The 25-year-old shortstop hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Knights, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Coney Island Cyclones, 8-7, at Stable Park.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Kaneko reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Kaneko banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Akira Kaneko doubled in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Alex de la Cruz in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th and tripled in the 7th.
For the season, Kaneko is hitting at a .300 clip with 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and has scored 28 runs. He has 39 hits, 21 walks and a .395 on-base percentage. |
