| Orphans Bang Out 8-4 Win Versus Nichols | Despite a great performance by Nichols catcher William Lawrence, the Cambridge Orphans defeated the Gnats by the score of 8-4 at The Pond. Lawrence was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Reliever David Moreno picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Mike Denny took the loss. The Orphans are off to a tough start, getting just their 10th win in 29 games.
Cambridge used the clutch hitting of Rich Velasquez to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to give the Orphans the lead, 3-2. For the game, Velasquez had 1 single and 1 double in 3 at-bats.
"We take it day by day here," said Velasquez, "and today was a good one for us."
