| Black Squirrels Jolt River Chiefs with Late Rally | Chippewa got a terrific performance from pitcher Elijah Cooke, but it wasn't enough to beat the Tree City Black Squirrels. Tree City won the The Nut House contest, 4-3. Cooke was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. The River Chiefs fall to 12-12 and continue their uneasy start to the 2038 season.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Tree City trailing 3-2, Vinny Lopez hit a fastball from Paul Childers to left for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Black Squirrels had a walk-off win.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Lopez said in his postgame press conference.
