| Mustangs Come Up Short at Coney Island | Coney Island Cyclones starter Alex Perez was in fine form against the San Angelo Mustangs at Coney Island Coliseum, leading his team to a 5-4 win. Coney Island reliever Willie Fernandez picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Ivan Marquez was collared with the loss. Bob Downard finished the game for Coney Island and earned his 1st save.
Mario Avila chipped in for Coney Island with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Avila told the Coney Island Times.
The Mustangs fall to 9-14 and continue to sputter in the early going.
