| Emeralds Slip Past St. Petersburg, 5-4 | The Eugene Emeralds eked out a 5-4 win versus the St. Petersburg Pelicans at Prefontaine Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Jung-sang Lee, who captured player of the game honors. Eugene reliever Pablo Baca was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Marlon Douglas took the loss for St. Petersburg. The Pelicans fall to 8-13 and continue their lackluster start in 2038.
The Emeralds were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when pinch hitter Victor Duran turned a 0-1 splitter from Marlon Douglas into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave Eugene a thrilling 5-4 win.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Lee told the Eugene Citizen.
