The Portland Beavers got their 2038 season off and running with a win over the San Diego Hops at Waterfront Park. The final score was 9-2. Portland pitcher Félix Reina was named player of the game.

The Beavers got a big at-bat from shortstop Cesar Sandino. For the game, Sandino went 1 for 3 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 1st hit of the season gave Portland a 3-1 lead.
